Best Ways to Get Internet on the Road

From the Closest Geek Squad to the Winnebago and Itasca Factory....

We often have customers ask the best way to get internet on the road.  I have found the easiest and cost affordable solution is to duplicate what you probably already have now... either a network card in a laptop or use your current SmartPhone or Blackberry...  I use an application called WalkingHotSpot, which is a solution that is affordable (onetime $24.99 charge), secure and simple to use! It transforms 3G or Windows Mobile smartphones into hotspots that enable multiple devices (i.e. laptops, MP3 players) to connect to the Internet anywhere there is mobile network coverage.  I’ve used now for several months and quite frankly it is as fast as my home and work, wherever 3G/4G coverage is available.

This sounds great for people who have Windows Mobile or Symbian OS cell phones... But there are a LOT of other people who have other phones.

We found two AWESOME programs to turn our Palm Treo 700p and 755p phones on Sprint into a cellular modem: You need a Treo USB combination “Charge and Sync” cable (or you’ll have to also have your power adaptor since this will run your Treo’s battery down fairly quickly since it will be connected to the internet and running FULL 3G SPEED.

There are TWO programs we’ve used...

• PdaNet for Treo 700p/755p/Centro $34 http://junefabrics.com/palmnet/index.php  Easier to configure and use than USBmodem (below) but only works on PCs

• USB Modem http://mobile-stream.com/usbmodem.html $12.47 until March 12th... THAT’S TODAY!!! They even have a FREE demo to "Try BEFORE you buy".

We've used BOTH and PdaNet was super easy to to use but only works on PCs. USBmodem was cheaper and works on BOTH PCs and Macs.

Happy surfing!
