Mercedes-Benz RV Storage and Maintenance Recommendations

As camping season comes to a close, now is the perfect time to schedule your regular Mercedes-Benz maintenance or prepare your Winnebago or Newmar motorhome built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis for winter storage. These RVs include the Winnebago Revel, Winnebago Revel Sport, Winnebago View and Navion, Winnebago EKKO 23B and the Newmar Freedom Aire.

Mercedes-Benz has both Service A and Service B – a maintenance schedule designed to keep your RV running smoothly while protecting its warranty and long-term value. Service A is for routine maintenance and the first regular check-up after initial ownership. This is recommended at 2 years or 20,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Service B is a more comprehensive maintenance visit that is recommended at 4 years or 40,000 miles, whichever occurs first. From there, continue rotating between Service A and B every 2 years or 20,000 miles. This PDF provides you with a detailed list of what is included at each service interval.

Storage and Maintenance for the Winnebago Revel, Revel Sport, EKKO 23B, View & Navion, Newmar Freedom Aire Built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis

Once you have your regular service completed, and if you plan to store your Winnebago or Newmar RV on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis, you’ll want to take a few extra steps to prepare it for storage:

  • Battery – For RVs that will be nonoperational for a long period of time, it is recommended to disconnect the chassis battery. When disconnecting your battery, please follow steps outlined in the Driving and Parking section in your Sprinter Owner’s Manual.
  • Tires – If your RV will be parked for over 2 months, increase the tire pressure to 68 PSI.
  • Fuel – Fill the fuel tank – follow the Sprinter Owner’s Manual for the type of fuel.
  • Body – Open air vents.

Once stored, there is a recommended In-Storage Maintenance summary to follow:

  • Battery – Charge Battery every 3 months
  • Tires – Check tires pressure every 3 months and move vehicle monthly to avoid flat spots.
  • Brakes – Recommendation to drive vehicle every month to clean brake rotor surface rust
  • General – Periodically inspect for rodent damage.

When the weather finally warms up and it’s time to get your Winnebago or Newmar motorhome built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis out of storage, here are a few things to consider:

  • Battery – Check battery condition and recharge if necessary.
  • Engine – Check engine coolant level and condition. If the RV was parked for over 12 months, change the engine oil and replace the diesel exhaust fluid.
  • Brakes – If the RV was parked for over 6 months, flush brake fluid and check the brakes for corrosion. Road test the RV and check brake operation.
  • Body – Lubricate door hinges and wash the RV

Proper RV maintenance and storage preparation are key to protecting your investment and ensuring peak performance when it’s time to hit the road again. By addressing service needs now, you’ll help prevent issues down the line and extend the life of your motorhome.
