Ron and Hope Lichtsinn answer questions from staff after announcing a large-scale expansion of their Forest City, Iowa based Winnebago RV dealership on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021.

The largest single point Winnebago Motorhome Dealership in North America is expanding with the goal of continuing to provide an RV industry leading guest experience.

Ron Lichtsinn II, owner of Lichtsinn RV, announced plans on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, to more than double the size of the Forest City, Iowa, based facility.

The expansion will include a large indoor RV showroom and fixed operations improvements featuring additional service bays, a large indoor parts warehouse and shipping center, as well as increased parts retail space to better serve their guests.  Lichtsinn RV also plans on expanding their camping facilities east of the dealership.

“As the RV lifestyle continues to grow in popularity, our team remains dedicated to making the necessary infrastructure investments needed to serve our guests,” said Lichtsinn RV General Manager, Heidi Thompson.  “Our focus on guest experience and our dedication to providing strong support to owners through their purchase, delivery and ownership experiences directly informed the decisions being made for this facilities expansion, which will include a large indoor RV showroom and fixed operations improvements featuring additional service bays, a large indoor parts warehouse and shipping center, as well as increased parts retail space to serve our guests.”

Lichtsinn RV has been recognized by Winnebago Industries, Inc., as the North American Top Dealer for six consecutive years. They are also the largest Winnebago parts dealer in the United States.

Lichtsinn RV sells the entire line of new Winnebago motorhomes and carries extensive used inventory.

Ron Lichtsinn, center, explains expansion plans to Sales Consultants Cody Lycke, left, and Reed Burkholder on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021.

Ron Lichtsinn Sr. founded the dealership in 1976.  Lichtsinn Motors sold a broad line of GM vehicles before they began selling Winnebago conversion vans in 1979 after a handshake deal with Winnebago founder John K. Hanson.

Lichtsinn’s son, Ron Lichtsinn II met his future wife, Hope, while they studied at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in the early 90’s.  Ron graduated with a degree in accounting and Hope with a degree in business management.

After returning to Iowa after successful corporate careers Ron and Hope bought the dealership in 2001.  They went on to build an expansive 26,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in 2014.

The latest expansion is an investment in the future said Ron Lichtsinn. “The doubling of our footprint here in Forest City, both in terms of real estate surface and facilities build, provides the capacity needed for current and long term growth for our guest base, which is the sole reason why we exist, because of our guests.   We are focusing to achieve our current best of class guest experience, evidenced by our Google and Facebook reviews, for even larger growth.  Our team members providing this experience for our guests will also be able to enjoy a better employment experience with the tools they need for continued success in their lifelong careers here at Lichtsinn RV.”

Kingland Construction Services of Forest City is the General Contractor for the project.   Kingland also built Lichtsinn RV’s current facility.

The Best Inspection in the Business: A Lichtsinn RV Advantage

The Best Inspection in the Business: A Lichtsinn RV Advantage

As more and more people join the RVing community throughout the country, one thing is certain, Motorhomes have become increasingly complicated with advancements in RV electrical systems, heating and cooling, plumbing, space-making slide outs and internet connectivity.

These aren’t the machines our parents’ generation traveled in.  As a result, the importance of the pre-delivery inspection has grown exponentially.  A pre-delivery inspection (PDI) is exactly what it sounds like.  At Lichtsinn RV, we thoroughly inspect your new or pre-owned motorhome before you take possession of your RV.

LIchtsinn RV Service Technician Jeremy Hanna performs a pre-delivery inspection on a new Winnebago motorhome.
Lichtsinn RV Service Technician, Jeremy Hanna, performs a pre-delivery inspection on a new Winnebago motorhome.

At Lichtsinn RV we have the best Pre-Delivery Inspection in the industry

Let’s face it, there are a lot of lousy RV dealerships out there. Unfortunately, in the race to find the lowest possible RV price, many people choose to buy from dealers who do not have a history of great customer service. Know in advance that the lowest price is not usually synonymous with the best buying experience.

At Lichtsinn RV, before you take possession of your RV, it will go through an extensive pre-delivery inspection. During this inspection one of our technicians perform an exhaustive series of tests on your RVs functional systems and they also look for cosmetic and fitment issues.  They work with a checklist of 172 items that they inspect on each new RV.  Each RV is also road tested.

Every RV pre-delivery inspection takes at least four hours and is valued at over $600.   However, we don’t charge you for this service as some dealers do.  It is simply part of our commitment to providing you the best RV experience possible.

Advanced technology requires advanced training

Your pre-delivery inspection will be completed by one of our factory trained RVIA/RVDA Certified RV Technicians. This certification provides you the assurance that the technician working on your RV has the specific skills needed to do so.

Many of our technicians have also actually previously worked at Winnebago and have unique product knowledge due to this experience that many others may not have.

Our technicians are among the most knowledgeable RV technicians in the country.  They are experts on every motorhome Winnebago sells…inside and out.

Why is a good Inspection important?

We’ve read the horror stories in online forums and heard from guests who have previously bought elsewhere about buying an RV from a dealership that doesn’t put an emphasis on pre-delivery inspections.  Or they simply don’t perform them at all — Here’s the keys!  Enjoy!  Then 1000 miles down the road you have big, big problems.

At Lichtsinn RV we’d rather handle things before you get here to pick up your RV.  Our thorough inspection helps us to find issues ahead of your arrival. If there is an issue, we fix it.  With our close proximity to the Winnebago factory we can often get the needed parts the same day. When you come here for delivery, if you should find any issues while you are here, again, we just have a quick 1 mile trip to Winnebago to get the part needed for your RV to get you on the road and our certified technicians have the expertise to do so.

Stay in our campground; get to know your motorhome

After a thorough orientation on your RV, we invite you to stay in your RV on our on-site campground. This allows you to put your new or used motorhome through the paces.  There is so much information covered in your complimentary orientation, it is easy to forget a thing or two. This provides you the opportunity to stay overnight with us, so that we are available just outside your doorstep the next day to answer any questions that you may have.

Our team will stand behind you

It’s inevitable. Occasionally an issue arises on a system that tested fine during the inspection.  Unlike many dealerships, we are there for you until you get the issue resolved whether it is something we do internally or if it requires a chassis dealer or a 3rd party vendor.   At Lichtsinn RV our relationship goes far beyond your initial RV purchase. The Lichtsinn RV team will stand behind you for the life of your RV.

Call Lichtsinn RV to find out more about our pre-delivery inspection process and for your all your Winnebago RVing needs!

Forest City is proud to be one of the smallest communities in the United States to offer a full service YMCA facility. The Forest City Y offers family-oriented fun and a state-of-the-art facility that includes a cardio room, racquetball courts, large gymnasium, pool, spa and track.

The Forest City Y serves people and families of all ages, income levels, and physical condition; with emphasis on responsibility and self improvement.

The Forest City YMCA opened its doors in February 1987 thanks to the vision and generosity of John K. and Luise Hanson. As a child, John K. Hanson, Winnebago Industries founder, learned to swim at a YMCA facility. This impacted him and as Winnebago grew, he wanted the community he loved to benefit from a facility that everyone could enjoy regardless of income level, age or physical condition. He turned that vision into reality and began the process of establishing a YMCA in Forest City.

John K. and Luise gifted the necessary funds to build the building which houses the Y and Hanson Field House for Waldorf College. The community rallied around their generosity through an effort called “Help us Open the Doors” which raised funds to equip the facility.

Knowing that the YMCA was in a small community, the Hansons’ established an endowment fund to ensure the longevity of the Y in Forest City. This endowment keeps membership rates at affordable levels. An annual support campaign is also conducted to provide financial assistance to those in need.

Pilot Knob State Park was dedicated in 1924 and has drawn many visitors to explore its hidden treasures and historical structures. Camping, fishing, hiking, and bird watching are just a few of the activities Pilot Knob provides.

The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed several structures in 1934. The entrance portals, stone shelter, three stone bridges, amphitheater and observation tower are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The observation tower is 30 feet tall and was supposed to be 40 feet tall but winter set in and the CCC had to stop construction.

Pilot Knob is listed in the Iowa Wildlife Viewing Guide. The park is a wonderful area for bird watching, particularly during migrations. Deer and turkeys are prevalent and readily seen. Turkeys were reintroduced into the area in 1979 and have flourished. Much of the wildlife can be seen while walking the thirteen and one half miles of trail through the park.

The park has excellent trails for hikers and horseback riders. Equestrians can enjoy the eight miles of trail allowed for horseback riding. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and snowmobiling. There are no overnight accommodations for equestrian riders.

Hidden within the 700 acre park and enclosed abrupt banks is the Dead Man’s Lake, a four acre floating sphagnum bog, the only one of its kind in Iowa. The bog is home to many unique species, one of which is the carnivorous sundew plant. Adjacent to the bog is a four acre lake. Because of its high acidity only specially adapted species can survive in the lake.

Pilot Knob also has a 15 acre lake that has good bass and bluegill fishing. It is a popular spot for ice fishing and ice skating. Electric trolling motors only are allowed on the lake.

The Pilot Knob Recreation Area, just north of Pilot Knob State Park is available for public hunting, hiking, snowmobiling and other activities.

  • Hiking trails
  • Amphitheater

Clear Lake State Park

6490 S Shore Ct, Clear Lake, IA

Only 24 miles from Forest City is Clear Lake State Park which has one of the best beaches in Iowa.   Clear Lake is the second largest natural lake in the state.  It’s a haven for summer recreation activities including RVing.   People travel from all over the Midwest to stay at this iconic getaway.

There’s a beautiful downtown area with quirky shops and eateries.  Events happen in the downtown park almost every weekend in the summer.    Clear Lake State Park is only a few miles from all the activity.

It is easy to go fishing and boating with many public access points and docks.

Clear Lake State Park is located on the southeast corner of the beautiful 3,643 acre Clear Lake, one of the major outdoor recreation features of northern Iowa. Although the state park is only 55 acres, it offers a tremendous diversity of recreational opportunities due to its location on the lake as well as its natural beauty.

This park is characterized by rolling ground with open, mature groves of oak trees. Several small draws and thickets provide habitat for owls, squirrels, opossums, raccoons, rabbits, many species of songbirds and an occasional deer. The scenic Woodford Island is a 3 acre island managed primarily for wildlife habitat and is an excellent spot for fishing.

The 900 foot sandy beach offers unsupervised swimming and is a great place for swimmers and sunbathers, young and old.

Clear Lake is a great place for fishing throughout the year. The lake offers good fishing for walleyes, muskie, northern pike, bullheads, catfish, yellow bass, crappies, and other panfish. Boaters enjoy skiing, jet skiing, sightseeing, wind surfing and sailing.

The park features more than 10 acres of picnic grounds with tables and grills. The shady picnic areas provide a great place for a family cookout. Playground equipment for small children is located in the picnic area adjacent to the campground. An open picnic shelter is available for online reservations.

A day-use lodge is located in the picnic area near the beach. Built in 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, this impressive historical facility is a great place for such group events as weddings, family reunions, company picnics, and other large group gatherings.

Clear Lake State Park has one of the most popular campgrounds in the Iowa state park system. The campground contains a modern restroom, shower facilities and trailer dump station.

Clear Lake offers the small-town, welcoming atmosphere along with large-town attractions. Visit the legendary Surf Ballroom, the site of many performances and the last performance of Buddy Holly, or walk downtown along the brick sidewalks to shop the antique stores and boutiques. McIntosh Woods State Park

McIntosh Woods State Park offers all the outdoor fun of Clear Lake in a more rustic and remote wooded setting.  It also has a dedicated boat launch ramp and is located in a serene location in Ventura, Iowa on the west side of Clear Lake.

Nestled in a forest of tall oaks this campground is shaded and cool from the summer sun.  There’s a small beach for swimming and floating.

It is located about five miles from all the downtown festivities in a quiet part of the lake.

McIntosh Woods is home to the only two yurts in our state park system. It is also the “anchor” base for anglers trying their luck on beautiful Clear Lake anytime of the year. In the winter, you can cross-country ski, snowshoe or ice fish. Whether you are here to fish, camp, swim, boat, sail, ski, snowshoe, paddle or just relax, you will enjoy your stay.

McIntosh Woods State Park is a 60-acre natural refuge located along the northwest shore of Iowa’s second largest natural lake, Clear Lake.

A one-mile interpretive hiking trail winds its way through the park with several key features highlighted along the route. The trail takes you through the Mallard Marsh on a walkway above the marsh that leads to a wildlife viewing blind where you can take photos of waterfowl, birds and a variety of wildlife species.

McIntosh Woods State Park is one of the major boating access points for Clear Lake. A modern boat ramp, the largest on the lake, is present with an extensive paved area for vehicle trailer parking.

Clear Lake is popular with anglers of all ages. A variety of fish may be taken in Clear Lake including walleye, panfish and channel catfish. To enhance angler enjoyment, a modern fish cleaning station is located near the boat ramp area at McIntosh Woods.

The park has a point or peninsula of land jutting out into the lake. This area includes an unsupervised beach which is popular for swimmers of all ages.

McIntosh Woods State Park is a popular spot for picnickers. The grassy and shaded picnic areas are a fine place for a family cookout. An open picnic shelter has been built near the boat ramp and can be reserved online.

McIntosh Woods’ shaded campground, complete with electric and non-electric campsites, is a favorite for many and is heavily used by boaters and fishermen. A modern restroom and shower building are present, as well as a playground.

A yurt is a traditional dwelling of the nomadic people of central Asia. They were found from Anatolia to Mongolia and, in Iowa, exclusively at McIntosh Woods State Park. Visitors to McIntosh Woods may stay in one of two yurts available for rent. The two yurts are unique and extremely popular for overnight accommodations on the lakefront.

Ventura Access, located one mile west of the park, is a satellite with an open shelter to rent, a basketball court, restrooms, two-lane boat ramp and a universally accessible fishing dock.

Another satellite area, referred to as the Harbor Inn, is located south of Ventura. It has an open shelter, restroom and shoreline fishing off a jetty. Just south of the fishing jetty is an area referred to as Ventura Cove, which provides a paved multi-use trail that winds through this wooded area. Across the lake from the natural sandbar at McIntosh Woods is another wonderful undeveloped public area referred to as Lone Tree Point/Farmer’s Beach. This wildlife refuge provides excellent outdoor opportunities, whether you like to shoreline fish, hike, ski, snowshoe or stargaze. Debunking RV buying myths: How Lichtsinn RV is Different From The Rest

Winnebago RV Production Quality Advantages

Family is central to Lichtsinn RV’s success

Ron and Hope Lichtsinn with their first son Ryland in 2001, the year Ron and Hope moved to Forest City to grow their family and business.
Ron and Hope Lichtsinn with their first son Ryland in 2006.   The Lichtsinns moved to Forest City to raise their family and grow their business.

A family affair

What started as a small-town car dealership in Forest City, Iowa, has grown to be the largest Winnebago dealership in North America for six years running.  This unlikely success story has family at its roots.

After returning to Iowa after a successful career in corporate mergers and acquisitions Ron Lichtsinn II worked side-by-side with his father for a couple of years after Ron and Hope bought the dealership.

The Lichtsinns had a plan

Ron and Hope set out to disrupt the RV Sales industry by building an advanced dealership and content marketing system.  These processes would support rapid growth, responsiveness and strong guest communications with a focus of guest service at its core.  This system has allowed them to provide an unparalleled guest experience throughout the United States and Canada.

Ron was also an early adopter of internet technology.   He set up some of the first RV-related online forums on Yahoo Groups.  The Lichtsinn RV YouTube channel has more than 20,000 followers. Hope delivers creative messaging to prospective guests through search engines and social marketing.

They built an expansive 26,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in 2014 and more than quadrupled the size of their original team.

Not only has the dealership become the top volume Winnebago dealer in North America; they also have had the number one Winnebago Parts Department for over 20 years and have been awarded the coveted Flying W Customer Service Satisfaction Award for 27 consecutive years.  Lichtsinn RV has also have been recognized as the top volume Motorhome Dealer in Iowa for the past 19 years.

A great employer for families

At the core of the business is a strong connection to family.  Ron and Hope Lichtsinn aren’t the only pair at Lichtsinn RV.   Out of almost fifty employees – eight are married couples.  There are also pairs of siblings and many other family connections too.

These connections help Lichtsinn RV have a strong foundation that is instrumental to the success of the business.  If the dealership does well, everyone does well.

“We encourage family members to join our team where it makes sense. From insurance to balancing schedules, we look at the family members to try and ensure we are providing their families the life experience they will look back on and be proud of. “

Ron and Hope Lichtsinn have worked hard to make Lichtsinn RV a great employer for families.

“Hope and I realize family is everything, our families and loved ones are the reason we get up each day and work to provide them the things we’d like them to have and the ability to do things together we want to,” Ron says, “We try and take the same approach as we look to our employees.”

This family environment is not only felt by other team members but also by their guests.

“Our guests contact us about their dreams for an RV experience that will allow them to spend more time with family and loved ones.”

Planning for the future

Even though the Lichtsinns have accomplished the goal of becoming the largest Winnebago dealership in the country they aren’t stopping now.

The company, along with the entire RV industry, has seen unprecedented growth during the pandemic.

Progress is underway to continue to expand the dealership to accommodate exponential growth in the parts and service departments in recent years.

There are also plans to further develop the Lichtsinn RV digital and social media presence.

What family-owned means for you

Since the Lichtsinn family name hangs on the business, Ron and Hope hold the highest expectations for quality and professionalism within the company.

Unlike at the national mega-store RV dealers that litter the nation’s interstates there is also a real sense of pride in the company.  Lichtsinn RV is made up of a family of individuals that deeply care about the success of the company and each other. When you work for Lichtsinn RV it’s not just a job, it’s a career.

Lichtsinn RV is better than a corporate-owned store precisely because they are smaller.   They care about their guests and their reputation.

That’s how the company has set the customer service standard for the RV sales industry and as a result has grown to be the largest volume dealer for Winnebago in North America six years running.
