Winnebago Industries Inc. Earns the RVDA Quality Circle Award

Congratulations Winnebago from Lichtsinn RV!

In October, Winnebago Industries, Inc. announced that all three of its RV premium brands in both the towable and motorized segments achieved the prestigious Quality Circle Award awarded by the National RV Dealers Association (RVDA.)

Winnebago Receives RVDA Quality Circle Award

RVDA awarded 21 RV manufacturers/brands with Quality Circle Awards for achieving the highest scores in the association’s 27th Annual Dealer Satisfaction Index (DSI) survey. This means Winnebago received at least 15 dealer responses and scored 4.25 or above on a 5-point scale in overall dealer satisfaction in the association’s survey conducted June through September.

Winnebago Industries Grand Design RV, Newmar, and Winnebago businesses are each being recognized as Quality Circle Award winners based on overall dealer satisfaction as measured in the Dealer Satisfaction Index survey. RVDA created the DSI as a tool to help improve communication and relationships with RV manufacturers.

When rating their brands/manufacturers, RVDA asks dealers to express, confidentially, their level of satisfaction on four core issues:

  • Reliability/quality
  • Parts
  • Warranty
  • Sales

RVDA reported that it received DSI responses from 520 dealership locations in the U.S. and Canada that included 2,672 brand ratings, an average of more than five per dealer. A summary of the DSI survey aggregate results will appear in the December issue of RV Executive Today.

Winnebago Industries will be recognized with the other top-rated manufacturers and receive their award during the RV Dealers International Convention Expo in  Las Vegas on Thursday, November 11.

RVDA is the national association representing RV retailers. The association’s members include RV dealers, RV rental operators, and RV AfterMarket sales and service locations. RVDA of Canada is a national, volunteer federation of provincial and regional RVDA associations which exists to protect and promote the interests and welfare of RV dealers across Canada in order to enable the industry to maximize its potential.

Key Winnebago Quality Advantages are listed below.

 Steel Superstructure Components:

    • SuperStructure cab design surrounds the cab area with a sturdy steel framework.
    • Seats and seatbelts are bolted to steel.
    • Windshields are installed automotive-style with urethane for added durability, strength and safety.
    • Appliances and cabinets are mounted to steel.
    • A steel firewall separates and protects the engine from the passenger compartments.
    • Interlocking joints evenly distribute the weight of the roof along the entire span of the sidewall. This results in the Winnebago “empty shell” being so strong it doesn’t need internal reinforcement.

One Piece Laminated Block Foam Roof (Fiberglass or Dicor)

    • 10 year/12 year Warranty dependent on model
    • Provides superior strength and longevity

E-Coating (Winnebago’s proprietary multistage full immersion electrocoating system)

      • Helps to minimize corrosion
      • This process is also used by leading automotive companies to protect their vehicles from corrosion.
      • The process involves charging each part with an electrical charge which attracts the protective coating, causing it to be “plated” onto the part.  The result is a uniform thickness of protective coating.

SmartSpace Design Approach

      • CAD aided design to ensure a precise fit for all components and reduce wasted space in each RV.
      • Winnebago manufactures their own holding tanks, so they can size and shape them to fit precisely into the space allotted.  This ability frees up surrounding space for additional storage.
      • Design Innovation with Furniture and Storage Solutions including innovations such as the Dream Dinette, Rest Easy Sofa etc.
      • Winnebago’s has its own in-house Stitchcraft area where the furniture coverings are cut and sewn to the perfect dimensions.

Winnebago Built

  • 70% of Winnebago motorhome components are made in-house vs. outsourcing
    • This allows Winnebago to ensure that parts will be available for years to come
    • This allows Winnebago to engineer precisely what is needed including benefits such as: ease of making the part fit exactly where it’s needed within the available space and allows Winnebago to distribute weight more evenly, which makes your motorhome handle better.
  • Winnebago manufactures components like water tanks, compartments, heat ducts, etc. in the Winnebago rotational molding facility.
    • Winnebago produces more than 3.5 million pounds of Rotocast goods annually. Each Rotocast molded component is designed to precisely fit its specific application and location.
  • Winnebago uses a Spin-Weld process to literally fuse the fittings to water tanks at a molecular level so they become part of the tank.

Ease of Ownership

  • Information and Parts Accessibility:
    • Wires are clearly labeled for easy identification – every 8/10 inches
    • Every part and component has a label with full part information for replacement
    • Owners have access to owner’s manuals and diagrams in online library

Winnebago’s E-Coat Process

Winnebago’s electrocoating (E-Coat) process cycles parts and assemblies through a 10-stage, full-immersion system. The E-Coat system is similar to that used by automotive companies and helps protect against corrosion.

This system is unique to Winnebago and keeps us ‘best in class’ among motorhome manufacturers. Extensive amounts of steel are used in Winnebago motorhomes for strength and durability and it is vitally important to protect the steel through the e-coat process to help reduce corrosion. We take pride in going above and beyond to deliver a true quality advantage that helps extend the life of our motorhomes. No one else in the industry has this capability.

The e-coat system processes piece parts and assemblies through a 10-stage, full-immersion electro-coating system capable of accepting loads 5′ wide x 16′ long x 6′ high. The first seven stages are used for pretreatment and involve cleaning, treating with a nano-ceramic conversion coating and deionized water rinse for good conductivity. The final three stages are used for the e-coat and rinse cycles. Electro-deposition is accomplished by charging the components with electricity, and then paint film is bonded to the body to a desired thickness.

The Winnebago E-Coat Process, one more way we strive to build the best RV in the market!

Is your Winnebago Built to Last? The Drop Test

What Makes Winnebago’s SuperStructure So Super?

From Winnebago’s smallest Class C coach to the largest diesel-pusher, coaches are built to Winnebago’s legendary SuperStructure construction design. But what about the construction is so super?

What Makes Winnebago's SuperStructure So Super

Interlocking Joints – Winnebago uses a specially designed interlocking joint to connect the floor, sidewalls, and roof to evenly distribute the weight, so our “empty shell” is so strong it doesn’t need internal reinforcement. Many competitors rely on simply screwing and gluing their sidewalls and roof together. But with all the weight borne only by those screws, the resulting structure is so weak it requires interior walls and cabinets for stability.

Laser-Cut Tubing – Precision laser cutters create precise joints in structural steel that are stronger and require less welding. While some manufacturers use less-accurate manual saws or cut-off saws. Winnebago’s precision laser cutter can also cut shapes into a tube, and even etches the length of each part directly onto the tube.

Thermo-Panel Sidewalls – By layering fiberglass and high-density block foam insulation with welded aluminum support structures, we create some of the industry’s strongest, most durable and lightweight sidewalls.

Embedded Steel – Metal substructures embedded into the sidewall provide solid attachments points to keep cabinets and appliances mounted securely in place. Other manufacturers mount cabinets and appliances to cheap pine wood boards placed inside the sidewalls, or even screw their appliances directly to the sidewall.

E-Coating – To help minimize corrosion, metal parts and components can feature one of several protective coating processes. Critical steel structural components are processed through a multi‑stage full immersion electro-coating (e-coating) system. E-coating is also used by leading automotive companies to protect their vehicles from corrosion.

The process involves charging each part with an electrical charge which attracts the protective coating, causing it to be “plated” onto the part. The result is a uniform thickness of the protective coating. Components like screen doors are painted with a powder-coating process. A positive electric charge is applied to the part, which attracts the negatively charged powder particles. The coating is then baked on in heat chambers for an attractive, extremely durable finish. Many competitors apply a simple spray-on paint that doesn’t reach or protect nooks and crannies.

Winnebago’s legendary SuperStructure construction design is a process that has been developed and refined over more than 60 years of building some of the strongest, most durable coaches in the industry.

Lichtsinn RV, America’s closest dealer to Winnebago Industries, has been named Top North American Winnebago Dealer by Winnebago Industries for the last four consecutive years. We proudly sell New RVs manufactured by Winnebago Industries as well as Used RVs.
