Winnebago View and Navion Freedom Edition

The Lichtsinn RV Exclusive Freedom Edition Winnebago View and Navion was developed by Lichtsinn RV in partnership with CDI Custom Paint, a trusted provider of full body painting for Winnebago since 2002. The Freedom Edition features a custom paint design, color-matched slideroom sides, an Iced-Pearl “250” logo, and an exclusive certificate of authenticity. This limited edition showcases the pinnacle Elite Finish, featuring five layers of crystal-clear coat, meticulously sanded, cut, and buffed between each application.

This special edition also commemorates 20 years of Winnebago leading the way in Mercedes-Benz luxury innovation with the class C diesel, View and Navion. Since their introduction, the View and Navion have had a transformative impact on the RV industry as the first North American Class C motorhomes built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. This introduced a new category of fuel-efficient, premium diesel motorhomes.

Lichtsinn RV Exclusive Freedom Edition Paint Process

Step 1: Prep

At the very beginning CDI meticulously cleans the View and Navion so the the craftspeople have a clear canvas to work with. This includes taping off all of the areas not being painted, sanding all of the smooth areas to give the paint something to adhere to, and then lastly, removing any defects including minor dents, gouges or imperfections in the substrate to provide the perfect canvas to paint.

Step 2: Main Base

When using several different substrates, the RV is primed and sealed to be ready for the paint application in a single back drop color.

Step 3: Layout

This step involves applying the stencils and guides for painters to work through, with attention to detail to ensure a nice crisp, clean paint line all the way across the Winnebago View and Navion.

Step 4: Stripes and Secondary Colors

This process is no less tedious than step three, it just entails different work. This process involves every additional color that will be placed on the View and Navion. A color is added, then a cover and paper is applied over that and then the next color can be added. They continue to build up each color until all of the colors are complete. The Freedom Edition differs from the rest of the Winnebago lineup in that each of the slideroom walls are painted to match, so that as you extend the slide rooms, your Elite Finish will flow through from sidewall to slide room, so that you will not see a white wall up against your Freedom Edition Finish. Finally, we partnered with CDI to custom design a subtle yet striking high-metallic Iced Pearl “250” logo.

Step 5: Clear Coat

Automotive clear coat is used as multiple layers of specialized, unpigmented resin is applied over the colored base paint. It acts as a transparent, protective shield and gives the RV its deep color and reflective shine. This Elite Finish differs from the rest of Winnebago’s lineup. The standard application includes 2 coats of clear coat with a nib and buff application. The Elite Finish adds 3 coats of clear coat, sanding and then an additional 2 coats of clear coat with a full sand and buff for a total of 5 layers of clear coat.

Step 6: Tear Down and Parts

Throughout the entire process, the View and Navion have been protected so that the paint or clear coat doesn’t end up where it shouldn’t. Once the painting is completed, tape is removed from all applicable areas and any parts that were removed for their protection are carefully reinstalled. This may include parts such as the awning, ladder, taillights, steps, or other components that were removed for protection and to allow for the complete paint process.

Step 7: Detail

During this step the View and Navion are detailed and taped to identify any areas where light sanding will cure any imperfections. To make the RV showroom ready, it is then polished and buffed.

Step 8: Final Finish

This is the final step of the process and includes an extensive quality control inspection. Any imperfections found are addressed to ensure the finished product meets CDI’s elite finish standards for quality and craftsmanship.

This Freedom Edition Elite finish is a $17,000 value and is offered at no additional cost to our Lichtsinn RV guests. This is our way of celebrating 20 years of the View and Navion and honoring the legacy of freedom behind us and ensuring enduring beauty and durability for the road ahead.
