Winnebago View 24J vs. Coachmen Prism 24CB

Because Winnebago is known for innovative designs and superior quality, it is very common for other manufacturers to attempt to replicate features and floorplans of various Winnebago RVs. One example includes the Winnebago View 24J floorplan and the Coachmen Prism Select 24CB. There are some similarities between the two motorhomes, including a rear corner bed and u-shaped dinette with the option to replace it with theater seating; however, in terms of quality and efficiency, these 2 models are significantly different.

CHASSIS

Both the Winnebago View 24J and Coachmen Prism 24CB are built on the dependable and fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter VS30 Chassis includes over 30 active and passive safety features including Active Brake Assist, Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and more. This chassis also comes equipped with MBUX Hey Mercedes voice guidance and artificial intelligence services.

The holding tanks in the View are significantly larger than those of the Prism. This provides you additional time between each “dumping” whether you use that time traveling, or just to enjoy less trips to a dump station. The tank comparisons are as follows: Fresh Water Tank 29 gal. 24CB vs. 40 gal. 24J, Gray Tank 32 gal. 24CB vs. 41 gal. 24J, and Black Tank 32 gal. 24CB vs. 41 gal. 24J.

INTERIOR

One significant difference between the View 24J and Prism 24CB is the quality of fit and finish in the interior of the coach. With new upscale, and notably standard, details throughout, the View combines freedom with comfort in a compact Class C coach. Comparatively, Coachmen offers two versions of their Prism lineup called Prism Select and Prism Elite. Essentially, the baseline Prism Select 24CB does not include the amenities and luxury that the Winnebago View 24J provides as standard features, but they must be added at an additional cost. Also, the costs between the Select and Elite models increases significantly, and while the Elite versions do include upgraded features including upholstery, cabinets, and countertops, these improvements still struggle to compete with the quality demonstrated in the Winnebago View.

A noticeable difference between the Winnebago View and Coachmen Prism is the newly innovated slideout in the View 24J. Increased from 20 inches to 30 inches, this allows for significantly increased galley space. Even when the footrests are extended on the u-shaped dinette, there is still plenty of space to move throughout the coach.

Another significant difference between these 2 coaches is the 24CB does not have a flush floor. There is a step up to enter the back half of the coach. In contrast, the Winnebago View has a flush floor making it easier and safer to move throughout the coach.

Also, referring back to the differences between the Select and Elite packages for the Coachmen Prism, there are many features that are not standard on the base Prism Select 24CB, including a TV over the entryway. Even with this optional addition, the location of the TV is inconvenient and awkward above the entry door compared to the location in the View 24J which is above the galley counterspace. The View does this without sacrificing overhead cabinets, as the TV can swing forward to reveal a storage cabinet behind it.

The overhead bunk in the View 24J is significantly wider for more comfortable sleeping or additional storage space than in the 24CB. The View overhead cab bunk measures 49″x75″ while the Prism overhead cab bunk measures just 36″x76″.

EXTERIOR

One key reason why Winnebago’s product quality is so superior to other manufacturers, is their dedication to industry-leading construction design, and this quality is demonstrated when comparing the Winnebago View and Coachmen Prism. Winnebago’s legendary SuperStructure design is highlighted in the View, as is their use of one-piece fiberglass roof. Comparatively, the roof material that Coachmen uses in the Prism is a synthetic thermoplastic roof that is not as durable.

Another area where the models differ on the outside is the awning. The Winnebago View 24J has a 16′ powered patio awning with LED lighting. In contrast, the Prism 24CB has a 14′ awning, covering less space than the View.

PLUMBING

Another significant difference between the View 24J and Prism Select 24CB is the addition of the efficient and dependable Truma AquaGo on demand hot water heater. While this system is included standard on the Winnebago View, it is only included on the significantly more expensive Coachmen Prism Elite version.

In summary, the Winnebago View 24J and Coachmen Prism 24CB floorplans may be similar upon first glance, but the discrepancy between quality in these two RVs is incredibly evident with the View standing out against the competition.
