“It’s a segment-buster because it’s a brand new look,” said Russ Garfin, product manager for Class B and C coaches for Winnebago.
“It takes everything that we’ve learned about compact coaches from Mercedes (Sprinter) and from the (Dodge) ProMaster and combines all of that into the next generation of compact coaches for Winnebago,” added Garfin. “It will appeal to the people who are looking for something that’s nimble, compact, yet has all the amenities – slide rooms and all the bells and whistles – while we’re doing some things to make it especially durable and well-suited for the active lifestyle.”
The Fuse will be a rear-wheel drive vehicle on the Ford Transit chassis, which features a 185-hp, 3.2L PowerStroke five-cylinder diesel.
“We are going to be launching with the Ford diesel, which is a 5-cylinder diesel,” Garfin said. “It’s very powerful with a 6-speed fully automatic transmission. Everybody that’s driven it says that it’s the best driving coach that they’ve been in, so we’re excited to see what the customer reaction will be. We think they’ll like it. There’s really great visibility from the cab with the Ford Transit. That’s something we worked real hard on — lots of amenities in the cab, all of the safety features, obviously with airbags. We’ll also have things like lane-keeping assist and collision avoidance systems in this vehicle as well as Sirius Satellite radio and all of those kinds of things to go along with it.”
The Winnebago Fuse will be available in two floorplans with one featuring a rear bedroom slide that extends from the passenger side housing queen walk-around bed and another with twin beds, a rear bath and a slideout up front.
