Workhorse and Freightliner Unveil Plans to Build with GM's 6.0 l Vortec and Allison Transmission

More to come, but Workhorse and Freightliner have both announced plans to build on GM’s new mated 6.0 litre V8 and Allison transmission lineup.

The Workhorse gas chassis features the improved 6.0-liter GM Vortec gasoline engine designed to achieve up to 20 percent better fuel economy than the previous 8.1-liter Vortec gasoline engine for Workhorse’s W62 models, rated at 17,000, 19,500 and 23,500 lbs. GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating).

Equipped with a standard Allison 1000/2000 Series transmission and General Motors (GM) 6.0-liter V8 engine, the Freightliner gas-powered chassis features an up to 320 horsepower range. This is the first time a 6.0-liter GM engine has been mated with an Allison 1000/2000 Series transmission.
