The Mercedes-Benz MBUX System

Debuted in 2018, Mercedes-Benz’ MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) is a revolutionary infotainment and multimedia system in both the automotive and recreational vehicle industries.

The MBUX system is both an infotainment and multi-media system that can be activated by voice controls. Similar to Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri, the MBUX system is activated by a driver stating, in natural language, “Hey Mercedes.” The MBUX system is powered through artificial intelligence, so it is able to learn about the users driving preferences and create a better, more tailored experience for the driver. MBUX will learn your preferences and present them to you through a suggestions panel

In addition to voice command, the MBUX system is accessed through the 10″ widescreeen touch screen in the cockpit that offering built in navigation, USB and USB C connections, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Users can control the MBUX infotainment center through the new touch screen buttons located on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. The cockpit also offers wireless charging for cell phones and devices.

The MBUX system provides  notifications to drivers from the VS30’s enhanced safety features including –

Active Brake Assist senses the likelihood of a collision with a vehicle ahead and sends both a visual and audible warning followed by initiating autonomous braking, and an industry exclusive to include pedestrian active braking.

The new active distance distronic is an intelligent cruise control system that senses traffic conditions and actively controls your speed to keep you at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

The new active lane keep assist will provide you with visual and audible warnings if your van leaves its lane unintentionally.

Blind spot assist including Rear Cross Traffic Alert – employs automatic braking to avoid a collision with traffic crossing the vehicle’s path including traffic passing while the van is backing up.

Crosswind Assist detects strong gusts of crosswind and helps the driver to stay on course. At speeds over 50 mph it corrects the vehicle’s course by means of automatic braking intervention on the wheels on the side of the vehicle facing the wind.

When TechCrunch, a technology-focused publication, reviewed the MBUX system they said, “In the end, MBUX is that rarest of beasts: A first-party infotainment system that’s exciting, powerful and extremely well-crafted from a technology perspective.”
