RAGBRAI, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Across Iowa, is a well-known, eight-day recreational festival of bicycles, food, music, community and more. It is the oldest, largest and longest multi-day bicycle touring event in the world. RAGBRAI began in 1973 making this year’s ride the 50-year anniversary of the event. RAGBRAI July 22-29, 2023
Each year, multiple cities are chosen across Iowa to host overnight stays for the 500-mile ride which runs from west to east across the state of Iowa. This year, the event starts in Sioux City with the annual RAGBRAI Expo at Tyson’s Event Center and ends in Davenport. The other overnight cities include the following:
- Saturday, July 22 – Sioux City
- Sunday, July 23 – Storm Lake
- Monday, July 24 – Carroll
- Tuesday, July 25 – Ames
- Wednesday, July 26 – Des Moines
- Thursday, July 27 – Tama-Toledo
- Friday, July 28 – Coralville
- Saturday, July 29 – Davenport
Three registration types are offered including weeklong rider, weeklong non-rider and day pass options. Registration includes many opportunities including access to live entertainment each night, provisions for camping locations, access and discounts at food vendors, bicycle repairs shows and merchandise, baggage transport between overnight communities, and more.
Each year, the event also features the RAGBRAI L Concert Series which features top national and local bands. This year’s lineup celebrates the ride’s 50th anniversary with nostalgic bands from the past five decades. The concerts are all free and open to the public, but you can also upgrade your concert experience with a VIP ticket. This year’s lineup includes the Spin Doctors, The Spazmatics, The Pork Tornadoes, Hairball, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foghat and Bush.
