RV Insurance Available at Lichtsinn RV

Whether you are using your RV for recreational use or living in your RV full time, we can customize a policy to fit your exact needs.

Watch our video detailing the RV insurance options available at Lichtsinn RV here.

We have found many of our Insurance customers do not have adequate coverage or are simply paying too much for the coverage they do have for their RV insurance. Unfortunately, by the time they realize this they may have already incurred substantial loss or expense.

Many Insurance Companies will insure your RV, but often you are only getting coverage for physical damage. It may not cover items that “RV Specific” Insurance does, such as RV Full/Total Loss Replacement (offered on newly purchased RV’s one model year old or newer: if your RV is totaled within the first 5 years, this policy provides the monetary equivalent of what it costs to buy a brand-new RV of the same or similar model, even if it costs more than what you originally paid for your RV.) We also offer Agreed Value and Actual Cash Value Policies. RV specific Insurance can also cover items such as: Vacation LiabilityPet Injury CoverageFire Department Service Charges or Personal Effects Coverage for contents inside the RV. Most “other” Insurance Policies do not offer these additional benefits.

If you are looking to buy a new RV or just simply looking for possible savings from RV Insurance you’ve already purchased elsewhere, one of our Insurance Consultants can provide you a no-obligation insurance quote.

AND we have Multi-Policy Discounts! Our knowledgeable staff is also able to quote auto, home, motorcycle and boat policies that can provide you additional savings to you as well.

RV Insurance: Are You Properly Covered

Sprinter Platform On the Rise

Article Originally Appeared on RVPro

Russ Garfin, director of product management for Class B and C motorhomes at Winnebago Industries, still vividly recalls back in 2006 when he showed the company’s first Sprinter-based Class C to his district sales managers.

“That was our first serious effort at a more European-style of a Class C motorhome. They all liked it but were nervous whether it would sell or not. They all said that’s pretty cool-looking – but it’s too expensive,” he recalls.

“‘It’s fun to have something new, but who’s going to buy it?’ they asked,” he says now.

Winnebago’s View and Navion – the first Class C’s ever built on the Sprinter chassis for the North American market – did attract buyers and stood for years as the top-selling brand in their class.

The rest of the industry eventually began building on the Sprinter platform and slowly caught up, however, necessitating a new review of the market. The result of that review at Winnebago is a new series comprised of the Vita and Porto, built on a Sprinter chassis that is 13 inches shorter than the View/Navion and retails for some $25,000 to $30,000 less.

“We’ve given customers another choice,” Garfin says simply. The difference between View/Navion and Vita/Porto is basically in the level of amenities offered between the two products.

“Something we still do better than anybody else is we provide more carrying capacity, so whether it’s a Vita or Porto or even a View or Navion, if you equip them the same as competitor coaches, you’re always going to find more carrying capacity in a Winnebago motorhome and that’s because we design in weight savings.

“Our styling on the 2020 View and Navion is gorgeous with all-new walnut and white interiors and an all-new front cap,” Garfin says. “From top to bottom, we’re second to none as far as appointments and in comfort.”

How will these new brands fare in the current marketplace?

“I think it was the right decision, but it’s too early to say how successful it will be,” says Garfin. “A lot of people shopping for a Winnebago motorhome on a Sprinter chassis are going to consider a new View or Navion first before they look at anything else. It’s going to take a little bit of time for the new brands to build some momentum, but we’re seeing that. We’ve made quite a few upgrades to the interiors and the exteriors on the Vita and Porto since we launched it with options like full-body paint, theater seating and hydraulic leveling jacks, which are well-received features. It really did change the position on our dealers’ lots.”

By the start of 2020, Winnebago Sprinter brands were gaining traction in the marketplace, Garfin stresses. “We are confident we will grow our share.”

Like all RVs, floorplans are king. Leading the way for Winnebago is View and Navion’s 24D floorplan, the No. 1-selling Sprinter floorplan in North America, featuring a full-size slide with a Murphy bed.

“People really like the openness of that full-size slide. When the Murphy bed is up, you have a couch and a big, U-shaped lounge so you have lots of seating and dining choices,” Garfin says.

Following the 35th Annual Florida RV Supershow in Tampa in January, Garfin reported, “We saw excellent response to our new Sprinter products, retailing the new Boldt, Vita and View models starting with the first day of the show. Our Sprinter sales well surpassed our sales at this show last year.”

“The View and Navion created the Sprinter market here – and even though the market has a ton of more competitor models, with everyone looking to mirror Winnebago’s success – we are now gaining momentum with our new products and we expect Winnebago’s identical sister brands the View and Navion will continue leading the market going forward,” Garfin says.

How to Winterize your RV – Video Tutorials

How to Winterize a Winnebago View

Your motorhome is equipped with a manually operated waterline winterization system for your convenience in winterizing fresh waterlines. The system features a Winterization (diverter) valve with an antifreeze siphon tube to draw nontoxic RV water system antifreeze into the waterlines. There is also a Water Heater Bypass valve to avoid filling the water heater with antifreeze. Leave Water Heater Bypass valve in NORMAL FLOW position if draining water and blowing out waterlines. Place in BYPASS position ONLY when using antifreeze solution in waterlines.

Watch our video on how to winterize a Winnebago View here.

  1. Level the Motorhome. If the motorhome is not level, there may be “low points” in waterlines that can trap water in the lines and prevent it from draining properly.
  2. Drain Fresh Water Tank and Waterlines. Open all waterline drain valves and drain fresh water tank.
  3. Drain Exterior Shower/Wash Station. Open exterior shower knobs and lay shower head on ground to drain any water left in the shower line. Also, place the tip of your finger into the city water inlet and gently press the backflow valve “button” in the center of the inlet to drain any water trapped in the inlet line. Remove Water Filter
  4. Cold Water Filter: Remove the filter canister from the Cold Water Filtration System under the galley sink and discard the filter cartridge. After emptying the canister, remount it onto the filter assembly and continue the Antifreeze Fill Procedure.
  5. Drain Water Heater (Tankless): Turn the Water Heater Power Switch (located behind water heater access panel on exterior of the motorhome) to the OFF position and allow hot water to cool down.
  6. Open the latch with your thumb while pulling the Easy Drain Lever down as far as it will go.
  7. Remove the water inlet filter and clean with clean water. Leave the water filter inlet removed until the Winterization process is complete or the system is placed back in use. Set Up Winterization Valves
  8. Turn Winterization Valve 1 to BYPASS position (to avoid filling water heater with antifreeze). Water Heater Power Switch (Located behind water heater access panel on exterior of the motorhome) Easy Drain Lever (Located behind water heater access panel on exterior of the motorhome) Latch Easy Drain Lever
  9. Remove and save the protective cap from the end of the antifreeze siphon tube (save cap to cover tube after use.)
  10. Insert the end of the siphon tube into a pail or container with 2 to 3 gallons of non-toxic RV antifreeze solution.
  11. Turn Winterization Valve 2 so that it points to Winterize (Syphon). NOTE: Ensure that all drain valves are CLOSED before pumping RV antifreeze into the water system. Fill Lines.
  12. Turn the Water Pump switch ON.
  13. Open each hot and cold water faucet handle/ knob in the motorhome – one at a time each in turn until antifreeze solution just begins to flow from the faucet, then close. Do not forget exterior shower/wash station knobs (if equipped).
  14. Press the toilet flush pedal and hold until antifreeze begins flowing into the toilet. Leave a small amount of antifreeze that remains in the bowl.
  15. Turn Winterization Valve 3 from “Normal” position to “Line Drain” position to allow water and antifreeze to flow through the recirculation line. Note: antifreeze will drain outside of the coach during this step.
  16. Turn Water Pump switch OFF.
  17. Turn Winterization Valve 3 to “Water Heater & Line Drain” position to allow all remaining water and antifreeze to leave the system. Leave the valve in this position until the Winterization process is complete or the system is placed back in use.
  18. Turn Winterization Valve 2 so it points toward Normal. This will stop the flow from the antifreeze siphon tube and revert the tank line flow to the water pump.
  19. Replace the protective cap onto the end of the antifreeze siphon tube to keep out insects or debris when not in use. Fill Drainage System P-Traps
  20. Pour about one cup of RV antifreeze down each drain for the galley sink, lavatory sink, and shower/tub. This fills the drain trap pipes to prevent holding tank odors from entering the motorhome during storage. Dump and Clean Holding Tanks
  21. Completely drain the sewage and waste water holding tanks at an approved waste disposal site. Drain the sewage tank first so the following waste water can rinse any waste solids from the dump outlet and sewer hose.
  22. Close dump valves and refit the dust cap onto the drain outlet. This will inhibit rust formation on valve shafts and prevent entry and contamination by airborne debris, insects, and rodents.

Celebrating 40 Years of Winnebago RVs

In 2019, Lichtsinn RV celebrated a milestone, 40 years selling Winnebago Motor Homes. What began as “Lichtsinn Motors” in the mid-70’s, a GM dealership, quickly expanded to what it is today, Lichtsinn RV, the Top North American Winnebago Dealer.

Lichtsinn RV

The origins of the GM dealership began in the Mid-70’s when it was purchased by Ron Lichtsinn Sr.. The dealership continued to grow as a GM Dealership and sold John Deere Tractors for a short period of time as well. Then, in 1979 after a conversation and a handshake between Ron Sr. and John K. Hanson (Winnebago Industries’ Founder) Lichtsinn Motors began its RV history and started selling Winnebago Conversion vans.

The Winnebago side of the business continued to grow during the next many years and achieved the Flying W Award (previously called the Circle of Excellence Award) in 1994. The Dealership has achieved this award each year since that time for over 26 years. This award signifies service excellence and superior owner satisfaction.

In 2001, Lichtsinn Motors was purchased by Ron Sr.’s son, Ron Lichtsinn II and his wife, Hope. The dealership continued to grow during the next several years achieving the position of the largest Motorhome Dealer in the state of Iowa in 2001, awarded by Statistical Surveys Inc., a title which it retains to this day.

In 2004, Lichtsinn Motors purchased the former Winnebago Industries Home Office, across the street from the Lichtsinn Motors Dealership. This building was almost entirely torn down to create the new Lichtsinn Motors RV Sales Office.

Lichtsinn RV Sales Building

Over the years Lichtsinn Motors was awarded by Winnebago Industries with many sales and parts award achievements. The Lichtsinn Motors reputation continued to grow across the Country as a leader in the RV Industry. Their focus of providing guests Industry leading service, coupled with a strong Internet presence and investment in technology, led the dealership to navigate through the challenging years of the recession of 2008. The slogan “In the town know for building Winnebago’s, we’re the dealership know for selling them” was adopted.

In 2014, Lichtsinn RV built a new state-of-the-art RV Sales, Parts and Service building in the former Lichtsinn RV Sales property. This expansion allowed the Lichtsinn RV Sales, Parts and Service Departments to sit under one roof, providing a seamless transition from each department to the Lichtsinn RV customer.  The new building boasted 5 Service Bays, a large indoor RV Parts and Camping Accessories Store, a spacious Service Check-In Area, a Video Production Studio, Indoor Delivery and Service Drive Area and a Guest Lounge equipped with the latest technology. During this time the name of Lichtsinn RV became the business name for the RV side of the business.

Lichtsinn Motors (dba Lichtsinn RV) divested of the GM business in 2015 to focus solely on the Winnebago Motorized Business. During this same year Lichtsinn RV also added 3 additional Service Bays to better service guests needs.

Each year since 2015 Lichtsinn RV has been award the Top North American Winnebago Dealer by Winnebago Industries.

In 2017, Lichtsinn RV achieved the Clean Auto Alliance’s Environment and Safety Elite Award. With the receipt of this award Lichtsinn RV joined a select group of automotive, truck and equipment dealerships and service companies that have demonstrated dedication to excellence in regards to overall concern for their community, their employees and their customers. In order to achieve this award Lichtsinn RV participated in a rigorous review process and proved adherence to industry best practices in all six program categories, including: Safety Systems, Environmental Systems, Hazard Communication, Loss Control, Emergency Response, and other Facility Specific Requirements.

Over the years Lichtsinn RV has been featured in numerous print and Video publications including the Des Moines Register, RV Pro, Going RV and More.

Why Winnebago: Rotocast Holding Tanks

Winnebago has several manufacturing methods that cause customers to choose Winnebago over other RV manufacturers. One method is Winnebago’s rotational molded components manufactured in Winnebago’s Rotocast facility. Having the ability to manufacture components like water tanks, luggage compartments, heat ducts, and wheel wells in their own facility allows them to maximize space, ensure optimal weight distribution, and make spare parts available years down the road. Rotocast Facility

In the Rotocast facility, polyethylene powder is placed into specially shaped molds. These molds are heated, changing the powder to liquid, rotated to distribute the liquid evenly, and cooled to produce the hardened seamless parts. Winnebago produces more than 3.5 million pounds of rotocast goods annually, each component designed to precisely fit its specific application. And because we own the molds, we know parts will be available for years to come.

EasyStart Soft Starter for RVs

Imagine an engine that can run but not start your car for example. What good is that? LRA is the problem the EasyStart solves with generators, inverters and other power sources. Most small generators and inverters placed in RVs are large enough to run and air conditioner. But RVers complain about the big and heavy generators for the split second needed to start an A/C unit. With EasyStart, the user can both run and start on lesser power. And it does that at the time when you need it most, in high humidity and temperatures.

The EasyStart makes for gentle ramping of your air conditioner’s compressor engine when starting. If you are not convinced, Google our loyal following’s online comments. Works with every RV rooftop air conditioner.

How Can EasyStart Help on Your Next RV or Marine Trip?

  • Starts your A/C without having to buy a second or bigger generator
  • Runs 2 A/C on 30-Amp power
  • Silences the bumps in the night. Sleep with less noise and cool all through the night
  • Runs your A/C with more appliances at the same time without worry

The Winnebago Revel Air Conditioner…The Story

Why Winnebago: Steel Corrosion Protection

Winnebago utilizes extensive amounts of steel in the manufacturing of their motorhomes for strength and durability. It is critically important to Winnebago to protect the steel against corrosion using an electrocoating or e-coating process. This system is unique to Winnebago and keeps Winnebago best-in-class in quality.

Watch our video on the e-coating system here.

E-Coating Process

Critical steel structural components are processed through a multi‑stage full immersion electrocoating (e-coating) system. E-coating is also used by leading automotive companies to protect their vehicles from corrosion. The e-coat system processes pieces and parts through a 10-stage, full-immersion electrocoating system. The first 7 stages are used for pre-treatment and involve cleaning, treating (with a nano-ceramic conversion coating) and deionized for conductivity. The final three stages are used for the e-coat and rinse cycles. Electro-deposition is accomplished by charging the components with electricity, and then paint film is bonded to the body to a desired thickness. Many of our competitors apply a simple spray-on paint that doesn’t reach or protect nooks and crannies.

Winnebago’s e-coating process provides owners a quality advantage and extends the life of their motorhomes. It is just another reason why Winnebago is better than the rest.

Winnebago Solis,Curbed’s Best CamperVan

Winnebago’s Solis campervan was recently recognized by Curbed.com, an online publication, as one of the top 9 campervans for 2019.

Winnebago debuted two new camper vans this year, the Boldt and the Solis. Already well known for the Revel, a converted 144-inch Mercedes Sprinter with four-wheel drive, Winnebago is looking to grow its share of the camper van market.

Billed as a four-season pop-up camper built on the Ram Promaster chassis, the Solis is also Winnebago’s most affordable camper van with a 2020 price tag of $100,667. What’s exciting for potential buyers is that the Solis delivers sleeping space for four thanks to a rear double-bed area that converts to seating during the day. Buyers can opt for a queen-size Murphy bed that drops down, or—and this is key for families—a sofa bed that includes two additional three-point seat belts. This means that parents can safely drive and sleep their kiddos, either in the optional sofa bed or in the two chairs up front.

Whichever option you choose, two people can enjoy the rear sleeping space while another two people can sleep in the fiberglass pop-top area that includes the Froli sleeping system and three windows.
