Featured Part: RV SnapPads

Any experienced RVer will tell you that not every RV park or campsite you visit will be flat or level. Sometimes one side of your spot will be higher than the other. Sometimes the terrain itself will be lumpy.

Of course, experienced RVers will also tell you that getting your rig level is essential to your camping experience. Appliances like your refrigerator need to be level to function properly. Any liquids that you might have or use in the vehicle can be difficult to work with if your rig is “wonky”. Sleeping at night or walking around your rig can also be less comfortable if it is leaning or slanted.

Leveling your rig is just one of the main reasons invest in leveling pads for your Motorhome or Fifth Wheel. However, given the size and weight of modern RVs, the health of our nation’s roads, sidewalks, and driveways are also at risk. Not to mention the maintenance and functionality of your automatic leveling system.

SnapPads, jack pad  will solve these issues. Here are a few reasons why SnapPads stand out – SnapPads for RVs

  • SnapPad increases stability in 3 ways: a larger footprint, more vibration dampening, and by conforming to uneven terrain like gravel.
  • Installs in seconds. Stays on forever. Say goodbye to crawling under your rig every time you set up.
  • SnapPads absorb the daily punishment of the road and elements instead of your metal landing feet. Helps prevent the protective coating from being damaged by gravel, concrete, asphalt and the environment.
  • SnapPads are made from durable rubber that grips any terrain. No more popping jacks or slipping in high winds or slick surfaces like ice.
  • Our process uses recycled tire crumb, high strength resin, and a 100+ ton press to make SnapPads extremely durable.
  • Made in the USA from recycled American tires. Good for the environment. Good for the country.
  • May help protect your family and electronics in the event of an electrical surge from a non-direct lightning strike.

To order the SnapPads please contact the Lichtsinn RV Parts Department by calling 1-800-343-6255 or emailing parts@lichtsinn.com

4 Hidden Places to Find Extra Storage in Your RV

Post originally seen on DoItYourselfRV.com

Most of us have a lack of imagination when it comes to how we use our homes, and this extends into the world of RVs as well. We tend to accept the storage we’re given, and outside of purchasing shelving or containers, we don’t get very creative when it comes to where to put our things.

In an RV, this can lead to over-crowded drawers and important gear that cannot be found until after an alternative has already been used. Here are four under-utilized areas that can make great storage when coupled with the right hardware!

  1. On the Inside of Doors – Wall space for hanging items is always at a premium inside an RV, but there are likely multiple areas that represent several square feet each on the back of every room door and cabinet door inside your motorhome or travel trailer. Whether you choose a pocket caddy for your shower goodies on the bathroom door or Command adhesive hooks from 3M for utensils inside the kitchen cupboard, there are a variety of tools at your disposal. One really cool idea I like is a trash can that mounts to the inside of your under-sink cupboard! Homemade Door Storage for Bug Spray and Flip-Flops – You might also make your own inside-the-door storage area from some wooden furring strips and bug mesh. Maybe you have some spare trim laying around the garage or in the basement? Cut it to length and screw a few pieces into the wood on the back of the door. Then take some mesh and tack it underneath to form a handy and sturdy storage pocket.
  2. Make Use of Your Ceilings – Depending on how your RV is constructed, you can use screw in or adhesive hangers to mount items up and out of the way, but still close enough to get to when needed. The ceiling of a utility space is great for hanging brooms, mops, and other long items such as fishing poles. Over-the-sink hanging baskets can provide great travel-safe storage for produce or other small kitchen items. In the bathroom, hanging shelves or baskets can organize soap, shampoo, and loofahs. If you think of what you use in each space of your RV, ideas will come.
  3. Build In More Drawers – Inside the walls of your RV, there are pockets of unused space. One such location is inside dinette benches. While many allow for drop-in storage from the top, adding full extension guides and drawer boxes can make this space more usable since it doesn’t require dismantling your dining area to access it! Small slide-out and drawer units can also be found for under your tabletops and cabinets to add small spaces for important items that otherwise just get jumbled in with everything else.
  4. Create Usable Space Under Your Mattress – Many RVs do make use of this space (at least partially) with hidden drawers. In many cases, however, the center part of the space under the mattress is completely unusable.

Whether you add drawers, or a hinged platform to lift the mattress up and out of the way, this is a great place for items that stay stored until used and are not typically packed away until it’s time to break camp. Things like outdoor furniture, tents or canopies come to mind. If you live in your RV, this is also a great place for seasonal item storage.

5 Easy Ways to Personalize Your RV

Post originally seen on DoItYourselfRV.com

Everyone wants their home to feel like their home. Even their home on wheels! One of the best parts about RVing vs. staying in hotels is having your home and your things along for the ride. It is so nice going out and exploring all days and coming “home” at night.

Since RVs tend to come with little personality, it’s up to you to make the space your own. Some choose to completely renovate the inside of their RV to make it truly theirs, but there are small changes you can make that’ll make a huge difference. Here are five ways to personalize your tiny home on wheels.

1. Wall Decor – The walls of an RV are pretty bare. Unless you are lucky enough to get a rig with a stylish border, the walls are probably plain. (Side note, you CAN remove the wallpaper border with little effort!) A super simple way to personalize your RV is to spice up the walls. With family photos, artwork, hanging plants, etc. There is no need to put holes in the walls of your rig. Command Hooks are the perfect way to hang decorations on the walls. The adhesive works great at keeping hooks in place on travel days and will not leave a track on the wall when you’re ready to remove. Command Hooks come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, making it easy to hang virtually anything, no matter the shape or weight. In case you do hit some unsuspected bumps in the road, consider using plastic when possible, especially with picture frames. Nothing will ruin your day quicker than finding broken glass spewed across your floors when you open the front door after traveling.

2. Indoor and Outdoor Rugs – Just like in a stationary home, rugs in your RV can bring the space to life. They make a room feel extra cozy and are an easy way to add your personality. Consider adding a rug or two to your RV to make it your own. Rugs will not only look great as they cover up less than aesthetically pleasing linoleum flooring or carpet, but they are also functional. Rugs can help keep warmth in a while camping in cooler weather. A rug in the living area can make for a great place for young kids to play or lay while watching a movie. A welcome mat at the front door is a great place for wiping dirty feet or storing shoes. A runner in the hallway can make a nice transition piece for the living area to the bedroom. Don’t worry too much about rugs getting dirty as they are so easy to clean. Roll them up, take them outside, and give them a hard beat. Cleaning is done!

3. RV Bedding – Is there anything better than climbing into your own bed at the end of a long day? That’s one of the best parts of RV travel! Give your bedroom or sleeping area a personal touch by updating the bedding. There isn’t much when it comes to RV bedrooms, so the bedding is going to make or break the look and feel of the space! Go for something bright and light to make the room feel larger. Add some throw pillows to make your sanctuary feel extra luxurious and comfy. Want to go the extra mile, spend the extra buck, and make all of your RV bedroom dreams come true? Upgrade the mattress while you’re at it! A new mattress might not make your space look any more personalized, but you better believe it will feel more personalized. Standard RV mattresses aren’t the most comfortable things on earth, and getting a good night’s sleep is essential when camping. A good mattress that matches your sleeping style is the best way to get a good night’s rest.

4. Curtains – What is the deal with the cornices or valances found in most RVs? They don’t necessarily provide any value, and we all know they don’t look good. Luckily, they are pretty easy to remove. With just a few twists of the screwdriver, those ugly window treatments are history! Once the old window treatments are down, replace with curtains and a rod. New curtains are a great way to personalize your RV! You can purchase curtains in a variety of lengths, but hemming curtains too long is a quick fix if necessary. When hanging your curtain rod, consider placing it several inches above the window if possible. This will give the illusion of the wall being taller, making your space feel roomier. Concerned that curtains won’t provide enough privacy? Opt for thick black-out curtains. You can also add blinds under curtains for added privacy.

5. Light Fixtures – RVs come with fairly basic light fixtures. Lighting usually consists of a mixture of dome lights, outdated ceiling light over the dinette, and puck lights. If you are looking to give your motorhome a more personalized look and add some style, updating light fixtures could be just the thing! Just changing out a light or two in each room can make a huge difference. While you are at it, change out old light bulbs for LED lights. This will help you save on energy and keep your lights cooler.

If you are looking to make your tiny home feel more like, well, home, there is no reason to spend a fortune or break your back doing a full renovation. Making a few simple changes can go a long way and make you feel proud of your space.

Air Conditioner Runtime Test in the 2021 Winnebago Revel

We recently put the 2021 Winnebago Revel with the Xantrex Lithium System to the test. We took a blue gray Revel and parked it on our lot on a hot and humid summer day to test how long the air conditioner would run before depleting the system.

Watch our experiment here.

In our experiment, we checked in on the batteries hourly with the help of the Xantrex BMS app available on your mobile device. With the app, we were able to check the batteries’ state-of-charge, temperature and more. During the experiment, we set the Coleman-Mach 10 NDQ air conditioner to kick on above 75 degrees. We also had the lights on and the refrigerator running. We found that the Xantrex system in the Winnebago Revel ran for 6+ hours before depleting the system.

Top Questions from our Lichtsinn RV Live: Introducing the 2021 Winnebago Revel

We recently held our Lichtsinn RV LIVE on the 2021 Winnebago Revel. In the LIVE, we covered all the changes to the popular Winnebago 4×4 product. You can watch that video here. We received several great questions from our viewers, so we compiled a list of the best questions. Read them below.

  1. What kind of batteries are in the 2021 Winnebago Revel? The 2021 Winnebago Revel comes with dual Xantrex Lithionics 125 amp hour lithium ion batteries, providing 1,600-watt hours of energy per battery or 3,200-watts total. These batteries provide up to 25 percent more capacity than competing 100 AH batteries such as battle born.
  2. What is the warranty on the lithium batteries? 3 Years
  3. What all do the batteries power and for how long? The batteries will power everything inside the coach including the Coleman-Mach 10 NDQ Air Conditioner. You can watch our air conditioner run test on the 2021 Winnebago Revel to see how long we ran the A/C off the lithium system before it depleted the system.
  4. Does the Revel require a soft start to run the inverter? No, it doesn’t. The new Coleman-Mach A/C starts slowly off the inverter so the inverter does not require a soft start to power it.
  5. Are there any issues with blocking the vents in the rear? It would only become a problem if it were to get extremely hot in the Revel. The lithium batteries begin to have issues at 113 °F
  6. Should you get a surge protector? Yes, it is a minimal investment to protect very expensive technology in lithium-powered motorhomes.
  7. How long does it take to recharge a fully depleted system when driving highway speeds? It does not take a long time at all to fully recharge a depleted system. Xantrex does have a mobile app that will give you the up-to-date reading on your lithium system.
  8. Did the exterior solar panel port get removed from the 2021 Winnebago Revel? It was not removed, rather it was moved to the rear of the coach. Based on Winnebago’s Voice of Customer research, they found Revel owners were keeping all the doors open in their unit and wanted the port in the rear.
  9. Has there been a change in the insulation in the flooring or sidewalls? The insulation values are the same in the flooring and sidewalls. However, there was a change in the flooring material. For 2021, Winnebago upgraded the flooring to a plasticore, non-slip flooring. This is the flooring introduced in the Winnebago Solis. It is highly durable and extremely insulative.
  10. What is the vertical tongue weight and towing capacity on the Winnebago Revel? The vertical tongue weight on the Revel is 500-lbs. with a hitch weight of 5,000-lbs.
  11. Do the rear doors need to stay open for the exterior solar port and water panel? Yes, the rear doors need to stay open to access the solar port and water panel. Based on Winnebago’s Voice of Customer Research, they found Revel owners were keeping the rear doors open so they moved all of these items to a more convenient spot.
  12. How suitable for a car seat is the Winnebago Revel? In the Winnebago Revel, there is capabilities for a child seat (with the 3-point seat belt) and a booster seat with the lap belt.
  13. What is the difference in the lithium systems in the Winnebago Revel compared to the View and Navion? They are both Xantrex systems, the key difference is the Revel’s lithium system can power everything in the coach including the air conditioner. The View and Navion’s lithium system can power certain items in the coach.
  14. Can you upgrade the inverter in the Revel? Yes, it would be possible. However, the size of the inverter grows significantly the larger it gets and we would need to find the real estate for it.
  15. Are the doors and chairs no longer powered? Correct, they are no longer powered. Mercedes and Winnebago decided to remove the powered feature from the VS30 chassis that were built with 4×4 capabilities. They decided it would be best to remove that feature for the units that can go off-road because they were opening when they weren’t supposed to.
  16. Is this a 4-Season Unit? Yes, this is absolutely a 4-season unit. Especially since Winnebago moved the water systems inside the RV.
  17. What is new with the Awning? The awning in the 2021 Winnebago Revel is the Colorado Carefree Awning with Wind Sensor. This awning has a larger motor to pull in the awning quicker in a high wind situation.
  18. How does the heating system work? The heating system is operated by burning the diesel fuel thru the diesel burner or thru shore power. However, shore power is less of a quick heating source and more of maintaining heat source.
  19. What are the fuel capacities? Can you add another fuel tank? The Revel has a 24.5 gallon fuel capacity and achieves 18-22 mpg on the highway. We and most dealers would not tap into the fuel source to add another fuel tank. Most Revel owners carry additional fuel canisters if they are looking for added miles.

Top 5 Suggestions on RVing with Pets

RVs are a great way to travel offering you the flexibility to go where you want when you want and to bring your pets along for the ride! With a little bit of extra planning, traveling with pets can enhance your RVing experience.

Traveling with pets can be made more enjoyable with these 5 Traveling with Pets suggestions.

Camping with pets

  1. Pet Gear and Essentials – You’ll want to bring a leash and/or harness, a pet stake for outside your coach, shampoo, brush/comb, waste pick up bags any flea/tick and heartworm medication (and any other medications) your pet might need while traveling and of course food and pet bowls ( for food and water.) You’ll also want to bring any special blankets, pillows or other items that will help them sleep. A sound machine might be helpful as well to keep outside sounds at bay during the night so you AND your pet/s can have a restful night sleep.
  1. Pet Safety – Always secure your pet when driving in the RV either in a seat belt harness or secured carrier. Driving needs your full attention with no pet distractions and this will keep your pet safe should you have an accident (just as your seatbelt protects you.) As you travel to new surroundings that your pet is not accustomed to they may get away from you. Ensure your pet has an updated ID Tag if they are not chipped (and even if they are for more speedy recognition). Bring along a photo of your pet in case they should get lost and even vaccination records may be needed in case your dog needs vet car along the way.
  1. Exercise – Ensure your campground is pet friendly and has open spaces for your pet/s to roam. Exercising your pet/s is important, get them outside to run and play. This is an adventure for them as well! This goes the same for while your traveling. Make plenty of bathroom breaks along the way which will also allow your pet/s to stretch their legs.
  1. Pet Safety While You Are Out – If you plan on leaving your pet for any period of time in the RV – you’ll want to be sure have your RV plugged in with a generator backup (in case there is a power outage at the campground) or have another power source to keep your pets cool enough/warm enough while you are out. Many RVers have a PET ON BOARD sign as well to notify others that there are pets onboard that will need to rescued should there be a campground emergency.
  1. Be a Good Neighbor – From picking up after your pet to limiting their barking (or any loud noises they might make) to obeying the campground leash laws being a good neighbor to the campers parked around you is important.

At Lichtsinn RV many of our guests bring their pets along when picking up a new RV or when here for service work. We’ve seen dogs, cats, parrots and more come through our front doors. RVing provides amazing outdoor experiences and who better to bring along but your four legged babies. A little bit of planning will go along way in ensuring you and your pet enjoy your trip!
