8 Reasons We Love the Winnebago Vita

10 New Features in the 2020 Winnebago View

Winnebago View vs. Winnebago Navion

Winnebago Motorhome Quality: Four Questions to Ask Before You Buy

Winnebago View vs. Winnebago Navion

Each year at Lichtsinn RV we help hundreds of guests on their path towards RVing in a fuel efficient Mercedes Benz, making us the largest volume dealer for Winnebago Views and Navions in all of North America.

The all new View and Navion have been restyled for 2020 and include the innovative fuel efficient Mercedes Benz VS30 chassis with all new contemporary European styling!  With new upscale details throughout, the View and Navion offer the freedom to live large in a compact coach. Combining freedom with comfort, this vehicle has been completely redesigned inside and out for an unparalleled Class C experience.

Which brings us to one of the most common questions we receive regarding these full featured Class C Diesel RVs. What is the difference between the Winnebago View and the Winnebago Navion. The answer quite simply is: The name.

Winnebago View vs. Navion

The only difference in these two models is literally the name. The Navion is a legacy name from when Winnebago Brands included the Itasca line of RVs. At that time Winnebago offered the Winnebago View and the Itasca Navion. Even at that time, there were very few differences between the Winnebago View and Itasca Navion. (Depending on the model year the differences were more extensive. However, towards the end of life of the Itasca Brand they were very similar.) The reason for both brands to exist was simply that some dealers were authorized to sell the Navion and some the View. Lichtsinn RV was one of the few Winnebago dealerships who was authorized to sell both.

Since Winnebago Industries discontinued the Itasca Brand they moved select legacy Itasca models to the Winnebago Brand, the result is the Winnebago Navion. The Winnebago View and the Winnebago Navion have identical floorplans, identical interior and exterior selections, the identical chassis, specifications etc.

Whether you choose the Winnebago View or Navion name, with each you will experience the power and performance of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, providing exceptional fuel economy and a comfortable ride. The Winnebago View and Winnebago Navion include deluxe features including: the MBUX infotainment system with intelligent voice control, heated power cab seats, and advanced safety features, like the active braking assist and lane keeping assist. Inside, you will find the innovative SuperShell sleeper deck with premium thermal and acoustic insulation making the front bunk more comfortable than ever before.
For your next journey, choose upscale details and unparalleled comfort. Experience a luxurious ride with the Winnebago View or Winnebago Navion Class C diesel motorhome!

2020 Winnebago View Floorplan Overview

10 New Features in the 2020 Winnebago View

Winnebago View Supershell Sleeper Deck

Sprinter Platform On the Rise

Article Originally Appeared on RVPro

Russ Garfin, director of product management for Class B and C motorhomes at Winnebago Industries, still vividly recalls back in 2006 when he showed the company’s first Sprinter-based Class C to his district sales managers.

“That was our first serious effort at a more European-style of a Class C motorhome. They all liked it but were nervous whether it would sell or not. They all said that’s pretty cool-looking – but it’s too expensive,” he recalls.

“‘It’s fun to have something new, but who’s going to buy it?’ they asked,” he says now.

Winnebago’s View and Navion – the first Class C’s ever built on the Sprinter chassis for the North American market – did attract buyers and stood for years as the top-selling brand in their class.

The rest of the industry eventually began building on the Sprinter platform and slowly caught up, however, necessitating a new review of the market. The result of that review at Winnebago is a new series comprised of the Vita and Porto, built on a Sprinter chassis that is 13 inches shorter than the View/Navion and retails for some $25,000 to $30,000 less.

“We’ve given customers another choice,” Garfin says simply. The difference between View/Navion and Vita/Porto is basically in the level of amenities offered between the two products.

“Something we still do better than anybody else is we provide more carrying capacity, so whether it’s a Vita or Porto or even a View or Navion, if you equip them the same as competitor coaches, you’re always going to find more carrying capacity in a Winnebago motorhome and that’s because we design in weight savings.

“Our styling on the 2020 View and Navion is gorgeous with all-new walnut and white interiors and an all-new front cap,” Garfin says. “From top to bottom, we’re second to none as far as appointments and in comfort.”

How will these new brands fare in the current marketplace?

“I think it was the right decision, but it’s too early to say how successful it will be,” says Garfin. “A lot of people shopping for a Winnebago motorhome on a Sprinter chassis are going to consider a new View or Navion first before they look at anything else. It’s going to take a little bit of time for the new brands to build some momentum, but we’re seeing that. We’ve made quite a few upgrades to the interiors and the exteriors on the Vita and Porto since we launched it with options like full-body paint, theater seating and hydraulic leveling jacks, which are well-received features. It really did change the position on our dealers’ lots.”

By the start of 2020, Winnebago Sprinter brands were gaining traction in the marketplace, Garfin stresses. “We are confident we will grow our share.”

Like all RVs, floorplans are king. Leading the way for Winnebago is View and Navion’s 24D floorplan, the No. 1-selling Sprinter floorplan in North America, featuring a full-size slide with a Murphy bed.

“People really like the openness of that full-size slide. When the Murphy bed is up, you have a couch and a big, U-shaped lounge so you have lots of seating and dining choices,” Garfin says.

Following the 35th Annual Florida RV Supershow in Tampa in January, Garfin reported, “We saw excellent response to our new Sprinter products, retailing the new Boldt, Vita and View models starting with the first day of the show. Our Sprinter sales well surpassed our sales at this show last year.”

“The View and Navion created the Sprinter market here – and even though the market has a ton of more competitor models, with everyone looking to mirror Winnebago’s success – we are now gaining momentum with our new products and we expect Winnebago’s identical sister brands the View and Navion will continue leading the market going forward,” Garfin says.

8 Reasons Why the View is Better than the Delano

The first reason why we think the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is the Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity of the View and Navion. OCCC is an important specification to understand before you buy your motorhome. The OCCC label is required by federal motor vehicle safety standards to ensure that buyers know that weight of passengers and cargo they can safely carry. Vehicle safety systems like tires, brakes and collision avoidance all may be compromised when the loaded motorhome weight exceeds the chassis weight rating. The OCCC figure is the maximum allowable weight for all occupants, personal belongings, and the weight of any fresh water you carry. Even the weight you put on the hitch must be included in your cargo calculation and the total must be less than the OCCC for safe operation of your RV. The Thor Delano has an OCCC of 349-lbs. while the Winnebago View and Navion have an OCCC range of 1,100 – 1451-lbs. That is OVER 300 PERCENT MORE OCCC in the View and Navion compared to the Thor Delano.

Watch our video on the 8 Reasons Why the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano here.

Our second reason why we think the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is the one-piece fiberglass roof in the View and Navion. The View and Navion come standard with a one-piece fiberglass roof on top of a laminated block foam insulated superstructure that is backed by over 60 years of proven durability and a 10-year parts-and-labor roof warranty. The fiberglass roof in the View and Navion is can be walked on and is stronger and more durable to outside conditions. The Delano comes with come with a rubber or TPO roof that is made from a cheaper glued and screwed construction to wooden trusses that can degrade over time. TPO roofs also require increased maintenance and regular repair to prevent roof degradation. Fiberglass roofs require lower maintenance and are more user-friendly.

Our third reason why we the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is the solar power system in the View and Navion. The Winnebago View and Navion come with a best-in-class solar package including two 100-watt solar panels, a battery charger with controller, junction box, and plug for additional portable solar panel on the side. The View and Navion also come with a 2,000-watt pure sine wave inverter to safely power electronics. The Thor Delano comes with a single 100-watt solar panel and a 1,000-watt inverter. So… the Delano comes with half the solar power and half the inverter.

Our fourth reason why the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is the sleeping configurations in the View and Navion. The View and Navion are available in three, unique floorplans with various sleeping configurations created to best suit your needs. The floorplan sleeping configurations include a POWERED Murphy+ Bed in the 24D, twin beds that convert into cross coach sleeping measuring at 74 inches wide and 87 inches long in the 24V, and a corner bed that makes room for a large corner bathroom. The Delano comes in three floorplans, but two of the floorplans – the 24RW and the 24TT come with an extremely heavy flip-down bed that has to manually lowered into the sleeping position. Our next reason why the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is also related to sleeping.

Our fifth reason why the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is the SuperShell Sleeper Deck in the Winnebago View and Navion. The new SuperShell sleeper deck includes premium thermal and acoustic insulation, making the front bunk lighter and more comfortable than ever before. The SuperShell Sleeper deck also provides great space for storage when it isn’t being used as a bed. The Delano comes with a generic cabover bunk that was not engineered with the same level of thermal and acoustic insulation as the SuperShell Sleeper Deck in the View and Navion.

Our sixth reason why the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is the custom, automotive-grade entry door. In previous model years, Winnebago always had a best-in-class entry door on the Winnebago View and Navion. Winnebago took the best-in-class entry door to a whole new level with the custom-designed, automobile-grade entry door designed in Europe specifically for the Winnebago View and Navion. The new door is extremely sturdy, very similar to a car door, with dual latching points that greatly reduce wind and road noise. The inside of the new door features a sliding shade and in-door storage perfect for umbrellas, shoes and other outdoor gear. The Thor Delano features the typical 3rd party manufactured door that is often seen in entry-level trailers and RVs.

Our seventh reason why the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is the View and Navion’s superior off-the-grid capabilities. A compact coach is the ultimate freedom vehicle and the last thing you want is to be tied down to a traditional campground. The View and Navion feature 2 large Group 31 batteries, large freshwater tanks, best-in-class holding tank capacities, and a Compressor Refrigerator. The View and Navion also have optional lithium ion smart batteries available. Winnebago designed all of these features into the Winnebago View and Navion to provide users with extended off-the-grid functionality – like never seen before in a Winnebago View or Navion. The Thor Delano has a smaller inverter, one small  house battery, and smaller holding tanks. Overall, the Thor Delano is not well equipped for camping outside of a traditional campground. With the View and Navion anywhere can be your campground.

Our final reason why the Winnebago View and Navion are Better than the Thor Delano is Winnebago’s superior experience building RVs. In Winnebago’s 60 years of building RVs they have pioneered several constructions standards that are now industry standard. Winnebago was the first RV company in the US to manufacturer compact RVs and Campervans. Why buy an RV from any other manufacturer?
