Top Questions from our Webcast on WiFi and Cellular Boosters

RVers increasingly are looking for technology that enables them to stay connected to family and friends, work remotely, or stream media. So we covered the options for WiFi and cell boosters in one of our webcasts. Below are the top questions from our webcast. We also created a step-by-step tutorial on how to choose a wifi, cellular or combined wifi and cellular booster for your coach. See it here.

What is the best way to stream Netflix, Hulu, etc. on your RV TV?

There are a couple ways of streaming onto your TV. One of the easiest ways of doing this is using an adapter from your smartphone, tablet or computer and connect it to your TV utilizing an HDMI cord. There are also separate devices, like Blue Ray players, already connected to your TV with streaming services built in. Most Blue Ray players that come with Winnebago’s RVs have streaming services like Netflix and Hulu built in. The third way is an adaptor that is plugged into the HDMI port with the streaming services built in. Examples of these are Amazon Fire Sticks, Google Chromecast, Roku stick, and Apple TV. These range from $39.99 for the firestick to $149.99 for the Apple TV.

What considerations with the weboost you have to take into account with shorter coaches?

With the WeBoost 4GX the amplifier connects to the internal antenna and needs to be far enough away from the external antenna to prevent oscillation, but very close to the objects you are trying to boost. So a shorter coach can prove to be difficult.

Is there an additional monthly fee for the Winegard Connect 2?

There is not an additional fee if you use your own SIM card, however, if you don’t you can purchase data through Winegard.

Are there options to boost over-the-air TV options?

Yes, if you have an older coach with an older Winegard antenna you can add the Winegard RV-Wing Wingman to boost your over-the-air reception.

If someone primarily uses their computer to stream videos are they better off buying a WiFi booster or a combined WiFi and 4G Booster?

It depends on where you are planning on RVing. If you are planning on primarily staying in campgrounds with WiFi a Wifi Booster will probably be sufficient, but if you are planning on staying off-the-beaten path in campsites

Lichtsinn RV, America’s closest dealer to Winnebago Industries, has been named Top North American Winnebago Dealer by Winnebago Industries for the last four consecutive years. We proudly sell New RVs manufactured by Winnebago Industries as well as Used RVs

RV Connectivity… Stay Connected with Cell and WiFi Options

RVers increasingly are looking for technology that enables them to stay connected to family and friends, work remotely, or stream media. So, we created a step-by-step tutorial for finding the perfect option for you. See it here.

There are 2 main ways to access friends, family and the internet while on the road:

  • Public or private accessible WiFi networks (RV parks, libraries, rest stops, Starbucks, etc.)
  • Wireless service providers (cell phone networks – Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, etc.)

Or, you can access the internet with a combination of cellular internet and free WiFi.

Public or Private Accessible WiFi Networks – Standalone WiFi Boosters

The goal of WiFiRanger products is to enhance existing internet sources and make them more usable, while also combining these internet sources as desired for the most speed, reliability, and automatic backup. WiFiRanger products can reach weak WiFi at extreme distances and also tether to your USB MiFi, Aircard, or Smartphone.

Wifi Only

Cost of WiFiRanger products: $359 – $749 + installation

How does the WiFiRanger work?

  1. Boosted WiFi – Find 4-10x wifi networks, the WiFiRanger boosts weak WiFi from up to two miles away. Overcome the challenges of line of sight with our rooftop mounted outdoor WiFi receivers.
  2. Interconnect Everything – Hook up all your favorite devices. The WiFiRanger interconnects everything with WiFi and ethernet ports for laptops, tablets, Smart TVs, gaming consoles, printers and more.
  3. Robust Security – Secure WiFi and safe browsing mode. WiFiRanger secures your network with WPA2 encryption, firewall and SafeSurf which allows using public networks securely.

Wireless Service Providers – Cellular and Internet (4G)

RVing allows you to see the country, which often then comes with the price of poor cell phone reception due to distance from the nearest cell phone tower and objects, including your RV, that obstruct the signal.  Using your cellular phone or a cellular hot spot to provide internet can be the most economic way to stay connected via the internet as you can use your existing data and you’re not tied down to a facility with internet.  There are options for improving your cell signal so you can stay connected via voice or for using your data for internet connectivity, even when you’re in the middle of nowhere.

How the weBoost Drive 4G-X RV works:

  1. Receives Signal – the booster reaches out to the cell tower to access voice, text and data signals while parked or in-motion.
  2. Boosts Signal – the booster receives the outside signal, amplifies it up to 32 times and sends it to the inside antenna.
  3. Expands Signal – the inside antenna broadcasts the boosted signal to devices inside the RV.

Combined Cellular and WiFi Boosters

As pricing of combined cellular voice and internet boosters have continued to drop, these boosters make it simple and affordable for improved voice and data coverage.  The Winegard ConnecT 2.0 combines cellular and WiFi boosting and can even use your own existing wireless provider!

Winnebago Revel Fresh Water Drainage Tool… The Story

In the Winnebago Revel, an accessory that is nice to have if you are wanting to drain your fresh water tank is Lichtsinn RV’s fresh water drainage tool. In the Revel, if you want to drain the fresh water tank on the bottom side of the Revel there is a fitting that looks very similar to fittings you will find in residential applications. The fitting uses a square release to run it counterclockwise to open it and then the fresh water tank drains on the ground.

It’s funny, what we find most interesting about life on the road is definitely skewed toward our adventures in the wild. But more often than not, we find that other people really want to know about the ordinary day to day stuff: What is it really like living as a family of three, full-time, in 176 square feet? How do you cope with so much togetherness? What’s in the trailer? And, of course, what do you eat? So, here are some of our favorite one-pot meals for RVers who are busy like us, to help give you a glimpse into our life in the Winnie.
When we come back from a big adventure, the last thing I want to do is spend hours cooking and cleaning. Over the past three years, I have refined my recipe repertoire to include a few delicious and healthy one-pot meals that are simple to prepare and don’t require much cleanup.

Sausage and Veggies
Ingredients:
 1 package Adele’s Chicken Apple Sausage
 1 bag red white and blue potatoes
 1 bag brussel sprouts
 Parmesan cheese (as a garnish)
 Avocado Oil (or whatever cooking oil you prefer)
Instructions:
 Slice the potatoes into bite-sized chunks and add them to a hot skillet (med. high) with about a tbsp of oil, stirring occasionally to keep from burning.
 Then clean and cut the brussel sprouts into similar-sized pieces. Add them to the skillet and stir occasionally.
 Slice the sausages into similar-sized pieces and add them to the skillet.
 The dish is done when the potatoes are soft and the brussel sprouts are al dente.
 I garnish with parmesan cheese and occasionally bacon crumbles.
This meal is a Famagogo favorite. Sometimes I top this dish with a fried egg for an additional protein boost. A Caesar salad adds another serving of veggies and is a great compliment to this delectable meal.
Chicken Curry
Ingredients:
 2 lbs. chicken (I prefer organic thigh meat)1 onion, diced
 2-3 tbsp cooking oil (I prefer avocado oil)
 1 large sweet potato, cubed
 1 package frozen peas
 1 package sliced mushrooms
 1 container Maya Kaimal Coconut Curry simmer sauce (I get this in a two pack at Costco and freeze one for later)
 Jasmine Rice (I use 1.5 cups for my family of three and we usually have enough left for lunch the next day)
 Naan
 Garlic salt
 Butter
Instructions:
 Dice the chicken into bite-sized pieces and sauté along with the onion and sweet potato in your favorite cooking oil.
 Once the chicken is golden brown, add the frozen peas, curry sauce and rice.
 Simmer until the rice is tender and serve with garlic Naan (also available pre-made at Costco. I brush it with butter and garlic salt and heat it directly over the burner on the stove while the rice is cooking.)
This meal can be as simple or as complex as you like. If I am short on time, I skip the sweet potatoes and save the time it takes to peel and dice them. If I have some veggies in the fridge that need to be eaten, I throw them in (cauliflower is a favorite addition).
Potsticker Soup
Ingredients:
 1 bag of frozen potstickers
 1 bag of pre-washed kale
 1 box of broth (I prefer ginger broth from Trader Joe’s)
Instructions:
 Bring broth to a boil, add potstickers and kale.
 Follow the directions on the potsticker bag to ensure they are cooked properly, usually about 10 minutes. Optional: Add your favorite hot sauce to taste.
Just weeks ago, after a long day of kayaking, my good friend Emily Jackson whipped up this fabulous meal in less than 10 minutes. It’s great because the ingredients are easy to store making it a great last minute, no hassle option.
Shrimp Scampi
Ingredients:
 1 package Casa Milo squid ink spaghetti
 2 lbs. shrimp (cooked, shelled and deveined are easiest)
 1 jar sun dried tomatoes
 1 jar capers
 1 jar fresh pesto
 1 can artichoke hearts
 Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
 Cook the spaghetti according to the directions and drain.
 When there is 5 minutes remaining on the pasta cook time, add the shrimp.
 When the shrimp are pink and the pasta al dente, drain the water keeping the pasta and shrimp in the same pot.
 Add the pesto, sun dried tomatoes, capers and artichoke hearts and heat until warm.
 Serve and garnish with parmesan cheese.
When I need a meal that is guaranteed to impress even the most discerning palate, this is my meal of choice. No one has to know that it takes only one pot and less than 15 minutes to prepare this gourmet delight.
Bonus: Cowboy Caviar
While more of a lunch or snack option than big meal, this is a great one to have on your list of go-to recipes. No pot needed for this one, just a big bag!
Ingredients:
 1 can black eyed peas
 1 can black beans
 1 can sweet corn
 1 can Rotel
 1 can diced roasted tomatoes
 1 can sliced black olives
 1 can diced green chilis
 1 diced red and green pepper
 1 diced onion
 1 bottle Olive Garden Salad dressing (add to taste)
 1 bag Fritos or tortilla chips
Instructions:
 Mix all canned and fresh ingredients in a gallon-sized zipper bag (or large seal-able container).
 Add the Italian dressing to taste and serve with chips.
 This is a quick and easy lunch or afternoon snack and will keep for up to a week in the fridge.
Cowboy Caviar is perfect for lunch or a just-off-the-river-and-we’re-starving snack. I love it with Fritos Scoops. One batch will last my ravenous crew about a week.

Dinghy Towing with a Blue Ox Avail Motorhome Mount Tow Bar

Traveling with a dinghy or “toad”, as many RVers would refer, has become exceedingly popular in today’s RV market. Dinghy towing provides the flexibility and convenience to allow you to easily explore and venture outside of your campground or resort. When searching for the perfect towing set-up, the options of tow bars and towable vehicles are endless.

Many of our guests use Blue Ox tow bars for dinghy towing – specifically the Avail. The Blue Ox Avail BX7420 is rated for 10,000-lbs., so it can tow virtually any car or SUV. The Avail is constructed from steel and weighs 53-lbs and comes in a brilliant copper toned powder coat with distinctive badging with gold accents.

The Avail comes with a 2” receiver and longer legs than the Ascent. The longer legs create more room between the RV and the towed vehicle for turns and gives the user more room for hookup. The Avail’s increased leg length also makes it easier to maneuver around obstacles and allows for better tracking for the towed vehicle.

The Avail is extremely easy-to-use with its patented non-binding latches, off-set triple binding lugs which eliminate back and forth movement and will not wear out baseplate tabs, and rubber boots prevent dirt and grime protecting the legs and prevent binding.

You can get a Blue Ox Avail tow bar (BX7420) itself at Lichtsinn RV for $949.00 (plus tax) or get the bar installed by our factory trained and RVDA Master Certified service technicians for $2,475.81 (plus tax). Call our parts department to learn more at 1-800-343-6255.

Lichtsinn RV and Winnebago Touring Coach Leads the Way in Innovation, Market Share

According to Statistical Surveys, Inc., Winnebago was the top-selling Class B manufacturer in 2015 with 33.9 percent market share. That is up from 25.5 percent of the market in 2014.

Lichtsinn RV is the #1 selling dealer of all Winnebago Touring coach B vans, according to a release by Winnebago Industries.

“We recognize that today’s active users will embrace products and features that support an active and healthy travel lifestyle,” Winnebago Product Manager and Travato owner Russ Garfin said. “With the tremendous response we have received from consumers, we are empowered to continue introducing these types of innovations.”

The Winnebago Touring Coach lineup includes the Era and Travato. Garfin points to pioneering features in both models as reasons for the rise in consumer demand. Examples include built-in bike racks, the ultra-quiet and efficient Truma Combi heating system, an innovative sleep system designed to keep beds fresh and comfortable and the addition of multiple USB charging points at every occupant position to keep devices charged. IMG_6150

“These coaches also offer an easily expandable solar charging system that gives owners the ability to effortlessly and economically ramp up solar power for increased usage off the grid,” Garfin said.

An additional new feature in both the Era and Travato is a state-of-the-art ventilation system that works automatically in all kinds of weather to keep the interior comfortable when the air conditioner is not being used.

As a result of the growing number of Winnebago Touring Coach owners, a new WIT Club special interest group called the “Winnie Bs” has been created. Linda Calabrese is a Travato 59K owner and one of the founding members of the club. She and her husband Tom noticed a red Travato on the cover of an RV magazine and soon visited a dealership to take a look. They toured a Travato 59K and fell in love with many of its features such as the compartment in the floor, reading lamps, spaciousness, solar power capability and the microwave/convection oven.

“When I stood at the sink and took it all in, I knew I loved this camper,” Linda Calabrese said. “You can move around, you can see from front to back, you can get to the bathroom in the back without disturbing another sleeper…”

Soon after purchasing the unit, the Calabreses traveled for 95 days, visiting 32 states and covering 14,000 miles. They navigated the Beartooth Highway, Pacific Coast Highway, mountains of Telluride and through the smallest tunnels of the Needles Highway.

“We have given an average of two tours a day whether at a campground, a grocery store, a gas station, a friend’s driveway or at church,” Calabrese said. “People are drawn to this rig because it’s especially beautiful. We always tell them the truth — it’s a Rock Star.”
